[Help] Images from feed not showing in ABS 7 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi Nick,

I have tried to repeat what you did with the www.pocketpc-live.com feed from your WSO.
Unfortunately it seems that ABS is not showing the images from the feed inside the program on my computer. Do you have any suggestions as to what I need to do to be able to download the images along with the feeds?

I am also having issues with images.

So far there has not been to my knowledge one image grabbed and published in WP, whereas the original articles do actually have images.

Here is what I am experiencing:

1. No images at all 'grabbed' or published in WP blogs.

2. I set up the ftp system for one blogger blog. This is not working either. Or rather it is working (showing that I did not screw up0 but the images are being grabbed and posted incorrectly. In the posts that ABS puts on my blog, wen I look at the html of the post the image is there but the final letter of the file extension is missing.jp instead of jpg. In other words i get something like this: <img src='mydomain.com/bloggerphotos/Yogurt cake.jp' align='left' style='margin-right: 5px;' />

When I check the folder I made in my root, it is empty. No images in there. So it seems that the ABS software is doing something, it would appear that the routing is right and I didnt do a typo in the location of the file for these images on my hosting, but it is not actually putting images into the blog as it is supposed to. And if the file extensions were wrong at source, the images wouldn't be displaying on the original blogs (which they are)

3. Now this may or may not be a related matter. I notice that the software is not actually grabbing the full-text content of blog posts in many instances. It appears that if I open a feed to look at it in firefox, if the full text is displayed there, then I get it. If the text is in theform of an excerpt, then i just get the excerpt which is of no value at all. Maybe the fact that it is not 'digging' to extract the full-text content as it was advertised to do is the same reason I and the poster above are getting no images either?

I use the ' Use proprietary methods' option to grab content and have altered no settings in the software.

Don't get me wrong here, Nick. I am not carping. I am delighted with what the software is doing with regard to having a central parsing unit and the ability to schedule posts. It would be nice, however, if it was successfully executing what it was advertised to do. Hopefully you can figure out what is going wrong here and tweak it. If it is something I have done wrong (although I have done very little - just used default settings for the software), put me right as there may be others doing the exact same thing.

Since this is happening to more than one person, I'm will look into it seriously. Please be assured that I will fix it in a couple of days if not in hours. To begin with, Barry, can you give me a sample feed you use..

Regards,
Carty..

Thanks, Nick.

Fiirst, here is the weird one which is not working in blogger blog of mine.

This feed is picking up the images and full text when I view it in FF and are displaying in ABS image pane as well. If you look at the page source code of the post in my blog, you will see that the image is not coming through correctly (image url about 75% down the page). If I try to edit the image source url by adding a g on the end, it still will not work as there is no image deposites in the folder on my host.

Feed address: www.freemediterraneanrecipes.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

Post on my blog from this feed: medfoodrecipes.blogspot.com/2010/03/reci...week-veal-kebab.html

Original article: www.freemediterraneanrecipes.com/2009/10...week-veal-kebab.html

Here is an example of a feed going to a WP blog that a) does not dig to retrieve the fulltext context and b) does not bring the image in the original article.

My blog post: solar-energy-advantages.iblogger.org/?p=21

Feed url: feeds.feedburner.com/solarpowerwindenergy

Original article: www.solarpowerwindenergy.org/2010/03/13/...-makes-a-solar-cell/

Seems as if I am getting a WYSIWYG effect when posting these feeds to WP. What there is in the feed is what is posted.

These are just single examples. I can show the same things with different blogs and different feeds as well so it is not either blog or feed specific.

Thanks for sorting it out, Nick.

Dear Barry,

Lets fix things one by one, step by step. First we get the extraction part complete with images.

In your first website link, you have mentioned that it works perfect, i.e., the software extracts full text and images using proprietary methods of extraction. So we're clear with it. This type of websites are in perfect standard where the image is at the beginning of the article followed by content. This is a recommended standard followed by all top websites.

The second website you gave, have images in the middle of the posts. I'm not saying this is bad. Proprietary methods of extraction just won't work for this type of feeds at the moment because it is trained to extract only the top sites Don't worry, in this case, we will use the second method "Between a known location" which works in over 99% of websites. So for that website, the settings should be entered as, the content is hidden between:
<div class="format_text entry-content">
and
Technorati Tags:

Try this setting and it works PERFECT!

So we cleared the extraction including images into the software.

Next is posting. Did you enter the ftp folder with a slash at the end? It should be like YourDomainName.com/FtpFolder/
"/" at the end is a must. Try it out and tell me if it works.

I admit I forgot to highlight this in the manual. I'll make necessary changes when you confirm this was the error. Also, I think I must record some video tutorials explaining the power and best use of the "Between a known location" method of extraction.

Carty..

Thank you Carty and Berry.

I've tried using the feed address: www.freemediterraneanrecipes.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss and for the first time I'm getting the images inside ABS.

One thing I've learned is not to use Internet Explorer for getting the RSS feeds. Some feeds will not work in ABS when taking the feed from IE but when I try in firefox it works just fine. The URL to the feed is a bit different in some cases.

I will do some more testing and let you know what I find out.
